SK&A’s Team Gears Up for Canstruction 2014

August 19, 2014

For the first time, SK&A has its own team competing in Canstruction 2014.   Canstruction is an annual food-drive and fundraiser held internationally, in which competing teams build giant-sized sculptures made primarily out of canned foods.  The local DC competition is organized by the Washington Architectural Foundation (WAF) and benefits the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB).

The theme for this year’s local competition is “Play with Your Food” and will have a record number of 28 architectural and engineering (A/E) design firms participating. SK&A’s sculpture is titled, “Together We Win – United We Eat”, and is based on a six-foot version of the popular M&M character, Miss Green, leaning on a soccer ball.  The  sculpture will include over 6,000 tuna fish and green bean cans.

The sculptures will be “Can-structed” at the National Building Museum on Saturday, August 23rd from 10 am to 4 pm.  The build-out day is open to viewing by the public.

The sculptures will continue to be on display for public viewing through the “de-Canstruction” day, held Saturday, September 6th.  All of the cans and food items from the sculptures will be donated to the Capital Area Food Bank.  Donations to CAFB can also be made through SK&A’s event fundraising page on the Razoo site: http://www.razoo.com/story/Skanda-Together-We-Win-United-We-Eat

Last year, SK&A participated as a member of the WDG Architecture Canstruction team. To see pictures from last year’s local event, click here.
