The Bridge District, a transformative new development along the Anacostia River in Washington, DC, has been featured in Engineering News-Record (ENR) for its pioneering sustainability goals. The article highlights the project’s ambitious plan to deliver the nation’s largest net-zero carbon residential community—an exciting milestone in urban design and environmental responsibility.
SK&A is proud to serve as the structural engineer for the first phase of this groundbreaking development, which is setting a new standard for sustainable living in the District. We are grateful to collaborate with forward-thinking industry partners on this effort, including Redbrick LMD, ZGF Architects, and HITT Contracting.
The first phase of the Bridge District—originally known as The Douglass—has been rebranded into three distinct residential towers that reflect the project’s themes of nature, wellness, and elevated living:
- Stratos: Emphasizing elevated living and panoramic views
- Poplar House: Inspired by nearby Poplar Point and rooted in natural design
- Alula: A serene, wellness-focused environment
Our SK&A team includes Walid Choueiri, PE, SE, Daniel Cocciardi, PE, SE, Zifan Ye, EIT, and Megan Dulmaine, EIT, whose technical expertise and commitment to innovation have been integral to the project’s progress and success.
The Bridge District exemplifies the power of collaboration in shaping a more resilient and environmentally conscious built environment. We’re honored to contribute to a project that will serve as a national model for net-zero residential design.
