The final beam has been set for the two-story, 14,500 SF addition at Leckie Education Campus in Ward 8, an exciting milestone made possible by R. McGhee & Associates, Keystone Plus Construction, DC Public Schools, and the DC Department of General Services.
Designed to replace the on-site trailer complex, the new wing will provide much-needed dining space, additional classrooms, and an outdoor playground, all while keeping the existing school in full session. Construction began in fall 2023 and is scheduled for completion in winter 2025.
SK&A team members Danna Anaya and James Chavin-Grant, PE, SE, CDT were on-site for the topping-out ceremony. Reflecting on the moment, Danna noted how rewarding it is to watch lines on a screen transform into real-world beams and columns, a testament to the teamwork that has brought the project this far.
We’re grateful to collaborate with the entire design-build team as the project enters its final phases, and we look forward to seeing Leckie students enjoy their new spaces in the years ahead.
