SK&A joined Clark Construction, Torti Gallas + Partners, and Community Three Development for the Topping Out celebration of TideLock on February 4, 2025. This mixed-use project in Old Town Alexandria North is breathing new life into a 1980’s era development by vertically expanding and transforming two 5-story office buildings into two 9-story residential towers along the Potomac River waterfront.
Once complete, the project will feature 65 luxury condominium units and 169 apartment units. Additionally, a newly constructed two-story building will provide retail and arts space, while an existing below-grade parking garage will be repurposed for utility use. Designed to achieve LEED Silver certification, TideLock incorporates sustainable design elements while delivering modern living spaces in a dynamic, mixed-use environment. The development will also include a public plaza, a private courtyard, and public art installations, further enriching the pedestrian experience.
As the structural engineer of record, SK&A played a key role in the successful conversion and vertical expansion of the existing structures. Our expertise ensured the seamless integration of new and existing elements, supporting our client’s vision for a dynamic and future-ready community. We applaud the entire project team for their efforts in reaching this milestone and recognize the following SK&A Structural Engineers’ team members who have contributed to this project’s success: Walid Choueiri, PE, SE, Jessica Wakeman, PE, SE, Naina Bhanot, EIT, LEED AP, Ammar Motorwala, PE, Jonathan Gallis, PE, SE, and Gordon Randall.
With construction progressing toward an early 2026 completion, we look forward to seeing this project bring new energy and opportunities to Alexandria’s Old Town North.
