SK&A Competed in CANstruction 2017

November 7, 2017

SK&A competed in CANstruction 2017, an annual design-build competition organized by the Washington Architectural Foundation to raise awareness about hunger in the DC area.  Teams from local architecture and engineering design firms as well as other industries compete by interpreting a theme and creating sculptures made mostly out of canned foods.  The build-out day was held on Sunday, November 19, 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the National Building Museum.  The sculptures will be on display for public viewing through November 26, 2017.

For this year’s "CANnect with Nature” theme, SK&A built an approximately 5.7-foot tall toucan sculpture based on the Toco toucan.  The sculpture included over 1,435 cans varying from chick peas, diced tomatoes, black eyed peas, tuna fish, and black beans.  All of the cans and additional food items used during the competition was donated to the Capital Area Food Bank.
