Full Speed Ahead! SK&A Competes Again in CanstructionDC 2015

November 2, 2015

For the 2nd year, SK&A will be competing in CanstructionDC 2015, an annual food-drive and fundraising competition organized by the Washington Architectural Foundation to raise awareness about hunger in the DC area. The competition challenges teams from local architecture and engineering design firms, as well as other industries, to interpret a theme by creating sculptures made primarily out of canned foods. The sculptures will be “Can-structed” at the National Building Museum on Sunday, November 22, 2015 from 10 am to 4 pm. The sculptures will continue to be on display for public viewing through the “de-Canstruction” day, held on Monday, November 30, 2015.

For this year’s "transportation” theme, SK&A will be building an eight-foot sailboat sculpture based on a "Catalina 36" yacht.  The  sculpture will include over 1,700 cans varying from chick peas, chicken broth, and chili beans to diced tomatoes and tuna fish.  All of the cans and additional food items from the sculptures will be donated to the Capital Area Food Bank.
