Bard High School

The project included the renovation and modernization of the former Malcolm X Elementary School facility in Southeast, Washington, DC for use by Bard High School. The new 115,000 sf facility was delivered under two phases and included the renovation of a portion of the existing facility and construction of a new addition.

The modernization included ADA requirements throughout the building. Classrooms as well as learning, instruction, and support technology were brought up to cutting edge standards and capacity to create an adequate 21st century learning environment. The new modernized design contained spaces for physical education and dining services along with discovery common areas, small group rooms, and resource rooms to support the academic program. In addition, a black box theater space will support Bard’s growing performing arts program. The completed project serves 500 students and is slated for LEED for Schools – Gold certification.
