Two Winning Projects: The ENR MidAtlantic Regional Awards

August 03, 2022

Two SK&A projects won awards in the ENR MidAtlantic Best Projects competition: The Benjamin Banneker High School and the Capitol Hill Montessori at Logan. “Projects were evaluated on the ability of the project team to overcome challenges, contribution to the industry and community, safety and construction and design quality,” (https://www.enr.com/blogs/11-mid-atlantic-monitor/post/54546-enr-midatlantic-announces-best-projects-winners) We congratulate our design and construction partners on each of these award-winning projects.

K-12 Best Project Award

The Benjamin Banneker High School is a new 200,000 square foot, four-story, innovative high school facility. A learning commons area is centrally positioned within the facility’s four-story atrium to host interactive and collaborative activities. The new school is constructed on the former Shaw Elementary School site. The site also incorporates public recreation facilities, including a skate park, dog park, and basketball courts. The project features indoor and outdoor classroom spaces, rooftop terraces, an outdoor plaza, a new outdoor athletic field, and a new gymnasium. Our design and construction team for this project included Perkins Eastman architects and MCN Build.

Renovation/Restoration Award of Merit

The Capitol Hill Montessori at Logan renovation project involved a modernization of the existing 50,734 square foot facility, originally constructed in 1934 and 1947, and the construction of new 54,000 square foot additions, which include classrooms, gymnasium, and rooftop turf field to improve the school’s current operations. Indoor common spaces were created by enclosing the existing courtyard spaces between the existing buildings. Our design and construction team for this project included R. McGhee & Associates architects and MCN Build.
