AIA Features D.C. Bilingual Public Charter School Update

September 29, 2023

AIA just published an update on the impact of the recently renovated and expanded D.C. Bilingual Public Charter School.  SK&A team members Josh Woolcock, PE, LEED AP and James Grant, PE, SE, CDT collaborated with Hord Coplan Macht and Gilbane on this project, which included the design and construction of a 27,000 SF addition with an expanded gym, updated art and music spaces, new lab for science and culinary instruction, new computer lab, and new library.

The students and faculty alike are enjoying the new space. According to this AIA article titled Collaborative design helps students in Washington, D.C. make the grade, “Enrollment is up. Staff retention is solid, and test scores for D.C. Bilingual Public Charter School students are at a record high.” The head of the school, Daniela Anello, says that the reimagined school is now “incredibly suited to give kids a well-rounded experience, from the core content areas to music, art, technology, library, dance, and cooking and gardening” (Wroten, 2023).
