Our Service

Forensic Testing

Our Testing & Inspection specialists, skilled in troubleshooting and problem solving, fulfill a wide range of advanced testing services to meet the needs of all of our clientele.

  • Ground Penetrating Radar Test
    • This non-destructive method, in accordance with ASTM D6432, uses electromagnetic radiation in the microwave band of the radio spectrum, and detects the reflected signals from subsurface structures.  GPR detects objects, changes in material, voids and cracks.  GPR uses transmitting and receiving antennas or only one containing both functions.  The transmitting antenna radiates short pulses of the high-frequency radio waves into the subsurface.  When the wave hits an embedded object, or a boundary with different dielectric constants, the receiving antenna will record variations in the reflected return signal.  The principles involved are similar to reflection seismology, where electromagnetic energy is used, and reflections appear at boundaries with different dielectric constants.
  • Impact Echo Test
    • Impact Echo tests are performed in accordance with ASTM C1383 “Standard Test Method for Measuring the P-Wave Speed and the Thickness of Concrete Plates Using the Impact-Echo Method.”  The impact on the concrete surface is used to generate transient stress waves.  These waves propagate along the surface of the concrete to the opposite surface of the structure.  The time difference between the arrival of the P-wave (stress wave with highest speed) is used to determine the P-wave speed by dividing the time difference (travel time) by the distance between the opposite surfaces.
  • Chloride Ion Testing
    • Specification limits in concrete are intended to minimize rebar corrosion.  Penetration of deicer salt and seawater can be assessed by profiling chloride concentration at various positions in the sample.  Chloride (Cl-) is determined and reported as a weight percentage of the sample following a potentiometric titration (Procedure A).  For cement products, chloride can also be reported as percentage of the cement component if the content is provided or determined.
