Squashwise Center

Building enclosure services were provided for the SquashWise Center, an adaptive reuse and interior renovation of the historic Greyhound Bus Terminal located at 601 North Howard Street in Baltimore, MD. The project transformed the existing structure into a two-story, approximately 24,800 sf community-based athletic, education, and wellness facility serving Baltimore youth.

The project involved restoration of the historic exterior façades while introducing new enclosure systems, including closed-cell spray foam insulation, new fenestration assemblies, and a new roof system. These upgrades were critical to achieving energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and long-term durability, but they also introduced potential risks related to moisture management, vapor control, and the interface between new assemblies and the existing mass wall masonry construction. As a result, building enclosure consulting played a central role in mitigating risk and protecting the historic fabric of the structure.

Technical peer reviews of enclosure materials, systems, and assemblies were provided, with particular focus on the interaction between new insulation strategies and the existing façade, detailing at window replacements, and the continuity of air, water, and thermal control layers throughout. During construction, submittal and shop drawing reviews were conducted, along with responses to RFIs, attendance at coordination meetings, and regular site inspections to verify proper installation, detailing, and sequencing.
