A Season for Giving: DCBIA's Care and Share 2013

December 13, 2013

Every December for the past 18 years, DCBIA's Community Services Committee has organized a wonderful holiday party for local youths in Southeast DC. Held at the Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC) located on Mississippi Avenue, SE, the holiday event brings together DCBIA member volunteers with bright, eager attendees from ages five to 18.

Event activities for the children ranged from arts & crafts, face-painting, cookie decorating, gym games, teen mentoring/networking, a pizza dinner and of course, the most popular activity of all — a meet and greet with Santa along with a wrapped gift for each child.

SK&A employees were enthusiastic to contribute to and participate in the event, gathering hundreds of dollars worth of gifts and cash donations within a quick two-week period.  Volunteering in the Santa and Elf Gifting Room, Charmaine Josiah, SK&A's Marketing and Business Development Manager said, "Funny enough, the little ones (five to six year olds) and the teenagers were both excited to see Santa. However, the eight and nine year olds were a little skeptical, but nevertheless, we caught them peeking around the corner to catch a glimpse of the man in the big red suit!"
