Construction is underway for Phase I of Twinbrook Quarter. This transit-oriented mixed-use development in Rockville features a Wegmans, plus additional retail, residential, and trophy office space. Delivery of Phase I is expected in 2024, with additional phases to follow. In full, the 17-acre Twinbrook Quarter will fill a full city block, accessible from Rockville Pike or the WMATA Red Line.
The project is being developed by Saul Centers Inc., built by Clark Construction, and features architects Torti Gallas Partners for the mixed-use tower and HOK for the office tower. SK&A is the SER for this project, with Walid Choueiri, PE, SE, Jessica Wakeman, PE, SE, Macenzie Smith, PE, SE, and Eric Iavarone, EIT leading the charge. The design features Bonded Post-Tension Transfer Girders on the second floor, some of which are 90 feet in length. Such girders are not a common element to all projects. As such, we took a “field trip,” providing an opportunity for our seasoned engineers to share with some of our newer teammates a hands-on learning experience with these structural components.
