Whole Foods Market Tenleytown Garage Repairs
The parking garage at Whole Foods Market in Tenleytown, DC, consists of a lower on-grade level and an upper deck. The existing columns at the lower level, originally concealed by concrete masonry enclosures, were found to exhibit extensive corrosion-related deterioration and significant cross-sectional loss. A detailed condition assessment was conducted, leading to the development of a comprehensive repair program for structural remediation of the lower-level columns.
Construction was completed in phases, allowing the building above to remain occupied and the garage to stay partially operational. The work included the design and installation of concrete piers to support temporary shoring, enabling the cutting and replacement of damaged columns with spliced sections. In total, 54 columns were affected. Additional deficiencies in the overhead structural framing and elevated slab were also documented for corrective action. Periodic field reviews and inspections were conducted throughout construction to verify compliance with project specifications, approved shop drawings, and contract details.
