Zach Shugart, EIT joined the SK&A DC Office’s Design Division in 2020. While starting his career during the events of COVID presented unforeseen challenges, Zach persevered and has become a go-to resource for architects, developers, and contractors, valuing each discipline’s perspective so the team can shape buildings that are safe, efficient, and aesthetically pleasing.
From his very first assignment, the DC DGS Headquarters, Zach has embraced every opportunity to learn new techniques and strengthen relationships with architects, developers, and contractors. Whether adjusting plans on short notice or answering questions during site visits, he brings calm competence and a collaborative spirit to every project.
A few of the notable projects from Zach’s first five years include:
- DC DGS Headquarters Office Building – Winner of ENR MidAtlantic’s Best Government/Public Building Award, 2023
- The Sovren – West Hyattsville, MD
- St Elmo Apartments – Bethesda, MD
- Parcel 42 Residential – Washington, DC
- 11th & Vermont Residential – Arlington, VA
- 8145 Baltimore Boulevard – College Park, MD
- Richland Mall Redevelopment – Columbia, SC
- Amherst Mixed-Use Buildings 1 & 2 – Wheaton, MD
A Hokie twice over (B.S. ’19, M.S. ’20), Zach capped his academic career summa cum laude before diving straight into practice. Off the clock, you’ll likely find him on a basketball court, golf course, or ultimate frisbee field, the very game where he first met his now-wife, Megan. The couple tied the knot last summer and still try to squeeze in trips (and ultimate frisbee) whenever project deadlines allow.
Please join us in congratulating Zach on his first five years of contributions to SK&A and the many structures now rising because of his hard work. We look forward to watching his next chapters unfold.
