Celebrating 25 Years with
Brent Stephens

June 07, 2024

Brent joined SK&A shortly after earning his Master of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. Brent grew up in Columbia, South Carolina, and completed his undergrad at the University of Virginia. His interest in construction and engineering was sparked in high school, as he volunteered several summers to work on home rehabilitation projects.

Brent quickly climbed the ranks at SK&A, culminating in his current leadership role as a Senior Principal serving on its Executive Committee. Additionally, he provides leadership and oversight to the firm’s Repair + Restoration Division and has been a key contributor to that group’s growth and success since he joined the firm.

With a career spanning more than 25 years, Brent has been engaged in the management and leadership of a variety of projects including parking garage repair, plaza and façade restoration, and several other of the group’s broad array of building maintenance services. Always one to enjoy unique and challenging repair and restoration projects, his work has won national awards for structural strengthening and parking structure rehabilitation. Brent guides clients in attaining quality and cost-effective repairs by providing practical, creative repair designs and encouraging collaboration between all parties during Construction. His proven track record includes contributions to well-known DC landmarks and properties, such as the National Theater and L’Enfant Plaza.

“Brent has always exhibited a rare mix of traits- reliability, technical mastery, and strong communication and client management skills. However, his most admirable qualities are his sincerity, selflessness, empathy, and ability to build strong personal relationships with his coworkers and collaborators outside the firm. Brent is also a sports and outdoor enthusiast and is always an active participant in firm social functions. He is also an exemplary father to two unique and bright adult children, Caroline and Ty, who are current students at Tufts University and Virginia Tech respectively. They are both following in their father’s tracks of character and achievement and are on their way to becoming superb individuals and professionals in their academic fields. Brent’s even keeled demeanor, resilience, and ability to laugh, even in stressful times, set Brent apart from most in the industry. It has been an honor and pleasure to call Brent a coworker, friend, and partner.

Please join me in thanking Brent for all of his contributions to SK&A and congratulating him on this significant anniversary milestone! His hard work has not gone unnoticed and his value to the firm and the role he played in it’s success are immeasurable.”
