Ammar Motorwala, PE, is a Project Manager in SK&A’s Repair + Restoration Division. Over the past decade, Ammar has developed into an expert and trusted advisor in structural repair, strengthening, and adaptive reuse.
His project experience covers a large variety of repairs and renovations of existing concrete, steel and wood structures in the region. His notable projects include the 2011 Crystal Drive Repositioning, the National Landing Experience Center renovation, delegated design services at 1900 Half Street, Tide Lock investigations and vertical expansion design, and multiple repair and renovation projects within the Watergate Complex, along with various delegated design efforts including FRP strengthening solutions and temporary shoring.
Ammar’s impact extends into the broader structural engineering community. As Past Chair of the SEA-MW Younger Members Group, he helped the board earn NCSEA’s Younger Member Group of the Year recognition in 2023. He continues to serve on the SEA-MW SE3 Committee and Rebuilding Together initiatives and plays a key role in the annual SEA-MW Next Step career fair, mentoring students and helping connect emerging engineers with professional opportunities.
Nationally, Ammar serves as Vice Chair of ICRI Committee 330 on Strengthening and Stabilization, Secretary of the ASCE 11 Committee on Condition Assessment of Existing Buildings, and an associate member of the ASCE 7 Wind Load Subcommittee. His technical publications include a STRUCTURE Magazine feature on the Strengthening of Reinforced Concrete Structures Using FRP Composites.
Beyond his technical work, Ammar is deeply invested in community. He stays actively involved in SK&A-supported programs including Canstruction, Gingertown, and Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF). He further builds camaraderie with co-workers by helping plan things like volleyball and soccer games, rafting trips or just by offering hands-on support whenever someone needs it. On top of all that, Ammar is equally committed to his family including his wife Tasneem and son Mohammed.
Ammar’s passion for learning and willingness to try new things in his personal and work life is inspiring and admirable. These traits along with his creativity, generosity and compassion make him well-equipped for many more decades of success as an engineer, husband, and father.
