Nomia

Nomia is a new 32-story apartment tower in Midtown Atlanta featuring 281 residential units in one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, as well as penthouses and 305 parking spaces. Residents can enjoy an abundance of amenities such as a rooftop pool and terrace, spa, TULU luxury vending service, a fitness center, electric vehicle charging stations, co-working spaces, and street-level retail. The building was constructed out of post-tensioned cast-in-place concrete plates, including the bottom 12 stories of parking and retail.

A striking feature of the Nomia is the spiral staircase that welcomes visitors as the lobby’s centerpiece. The spiral staircase, spanning over 36’ along its outer radius, connects the entrance lobby to amenity spaces for the tenants. Across the span, the gravity-defying concrete structure wraps a full 360 degrees without intermediate supports. The base of the stair sits on slab on grade. However, to stiffen stair deflections, the slab-on-grade was locally thickened, almost like a footing, and a kneewall was included to reduce the clear span. The upper story of the stair frames into a nine-inch-thick post-tensioned slab.
