Ribbon Cutting for Station U&O in Shaw Arts District

January 18, 2024

The ribbon-cutting for Station U & O that took place on January 18, 2024 was a much-anticipated event. Station U&O is a 10-story multifamily building proudly standing on a plot of land known as Parcel 42. Executive Director of the DC Housing Finance Authority, Christopher E. Donald, reflected, “Parcel 42 has been gestating for over two decades and has finally come forth as an amazing example of beautiful, affordable, and healthy housing. Set at the gateway of the Shaw Arts District, Station U&O will stand as an example of a creative public private partnership that maximizes the utilization of public land for the public benefit” (DC.gov).

SK&A Structural Engineers joined Mayor Muriel Bowser, developer Dantes Partners, architect Grimm + Parker, and contractor Davis Construction for this momentous occasion. This affordable housing development in DC’s Ward 2 will feature 110 apartments over ground-floor retail. The various floorplans for the Studio, One, and Two bedroom units are named after transit stations from all around the globe, such as The Kings Cross, The Sydney Central, and The Addis Ababa La Gare. Remarkably, 108 of the 110 units are designated affordable. Residents of Station U&O will enjoy a fitness center, coworking spaces, and a penthouse clubroom, along with easy access to the neighboring Shaw-Howard University metro station and the Shaw Library.

Congratulations to our SK&A staff members, Scott Stewart, PE, SE, Aaron Snyder, PE, and Zachary Shugart, EIT, along with the entire design and construction team, on the successful completion of this project!
