The new Tucker Road Ice Rink in Fort Washington, MD features a National Hockey League-sized ice rink with bleacher seating, a dance studio, café, and community lounge. The 47,920 SF building replaced a community center that had been damaged by fire. This Metal Construction News article quotes Grimm + Parker Architect’s Associate Brian Walbridge, RA describing the design, saying, “The sleek metal panel and glass exterior of the building recall the sloping planes of icebergs, glaciers and mountains, while the lighting both inside and out recall the vibrant colors of sunrises and the northern lights.”
SK&A served as the Building Enclosure Commissioning Authority (BECxA) and provided Building Enclosure Commissioning (BECx) services, developing the commissioning process by which the design and construction of building enclosure materials, components, and assemblies were designed and validated. SK&A also provided comprehensive technical reviews of the building enclosure and the various air, water, thermal, and vapor control materials and components and systems during the schematic design, design development, and construction documents phases.
We were pleased to work alongside these design and construction partners on this project: Forrester Construction, Grimm + Parker Architects, O’Connell and Lawrence, Fuog/Interbuild, IronShore Contracting, Butler Manufacturing, and NexGen Metal Design Systems.
