Senior Living Design Trends and Grandview Hardhat Tour

“Senior Living Design Market Trends” was the title of the program co-presented by Hord Coplan Macht (HCM) and SK&A Structural Engineers at Whiting-Turner’s Senior Living Conference held earlier this month. Whiting-Turner executives from around the country spent April 15th exploring The Mather in McLean, then the 16th at The Grandview in Bethesda. Chad Bederka, AIA, NCARB and Amanda Hughes, AIA, NCARB of HCM, together with Hakan Onel, PE, SE, and Joseph Uchno, PE of SK&A, as the architects and structural engineers of The Grandview, respectively, shared insights on New Design Trends and Structural Components for senior living facilities. Of particular interest were Light Gauge Bearing Wall Systems utilizing Hambro Composite Joists.

Following the presentation, attendees enjoyed a hardhat walking tour of The Grandview Senior Living Campus, still under construction, led by JR Rollyson, Jared Hoover, and Brendan Baloh of Whiting-Turner. The 33-acre parcel had previously been home to the Marriott International Headquarters. Now, Erickson Senior Living is transforming the site into a “new urban continuing care retirement community with more than 1,200 units of independent living, assisted living, memory care and skilled care.” (hcm2.com)
