Celebrating the Retirement of Marcia Camarda

On September 16, 2025, SK&A gathered at Maggiano’s in Tysons Corner to celebrate the remarkable career and well-earned retirement of Marcia Camarda, PE, LEED AP.

Marcia first joined SK&A in 1984, after completing her graduate studies at George Washington University under the mentorship of Dr. Azer Kehnemui. She made history as SK&A’s first female engineer, setting the stage for a career defined by trailblazing leadership, technical excellence, and deep dedication to the profession. Over the decades, Marcia became a Principal, later President of the firm, and one of its most influential voices—helping shape the company’s culture, reputation, and impact on the industry.

Throughout her tenure, she pioneered sustainable design practices and mentored countless engineers who now carry forward her legacy. She has also been a passionate advocate for STEM education and community engagement, inspiring future generations to pursue careers in engineering.

An Evening of Memories and Gratitude

The celebration brought together colleagues, family, and friends, including already-retired Principals Azer Kehnemui, Cetin Karabulut, and David Rodler. The evening was filled with warmth, laughter, and heartfelt tributes as guests shared stories of Marcia’s many contributions and enduring influence.

Azer, who taught Marcia at GWU, reflected on her journey from student to leader and the deep pride he feels in her accomplishments. Scott Stewart, Brent Stephens, and David Rodler offered moving remarks, recalling shared milestones, memorable projects, and the unwavering commitment Marcia brought to SK&A every day.

A Lasting Legacy

Following four decades at SK&A, Marcia leaves a lasting imprint that will continue to guide and inspire the firm well into the future. From her role in advancing the firm’s reputation for design excellence to her leadership in mentoring young professionals, her impact extends far beyond the projects she helped bring to life.

As we celebrate her career, we also celebrate the future she helped create—for SK&A, for the profession, and for the many people fortunate enough to have worked alongside her.

Congratulations, Marcia, on a well-deserved retirement.
