June 15th marked five years since John joined SK&A as our IT Manager. With more than 25 years of experience in the field, John blends strategic vision with hands-on know-how to keep our operations running smoothly.
Together, John and Won form the dynamic duo that is our IT team, answering questions and solving problems with speed, patience, and a sense of humor. Their proactive support reduces downtime to keep systems online across every department.
Just a few of the ways our IT Team supports SK&A:
- Enterprise-wide infrastructure: Maintains the servers, networks, and cloud systems that link our three locations and allows seamless access for staff when working remotely. Manages licensing/support for AutoCAD, Revit, BIM360, Bentley, Bluebeam and several other engineering software programs and manages staff hardware including laptops, cellphones and iPads.
- Storage & security: Oversees cloud storage, digital archives, and endpoint management to safeguard data and ensure fast access.
- Process & budget leadership: Chairs quarterly IT Steering Committee meetings, aligns the tech budget with business goals, and evaluates emerging tools (including AI) that benefit engineers and support staff.
- Notable upgrades: Migrated backups from older systems (tapes, etc.) to more efficient and reliable cloud-based systems. Transitioned on-premise servers to cloud systems that reduce hardware maintenance and costs. Deployed Microsoft Business Voice with Teams, retiring all physical desk phones.
During his first five years, John utilized his past experience and strong rapport with Won to quickly learn all aspects of our IT infrastructure and become a thought leader regarding brainstorming ways to improve IT systems and operations. He is a big reason why our IT Team continues to meet their four primary goals: Reliability, Security, Mobility and Simple!
