For over twenty years with SK&A and nearly 37,000 SK&A project hours, Gordon has kept our drawings sharp and our deadlines intact, and assisted with whatever he was tasked or volunteered for in the office. Starting his career in the board drafting era, he has transitioned to two-dimensional CAD drafting and is now in 3D BIM modeling. He can efficiently draft any project structural system or type, new or existing. That is quite the versatility and stretch in the eras of the industry.
When he isn’t turning engineer markups into construction documents or adding another property to his real-estate portfolio, Gordon is the first person we call when anything needs fixing, from plotter to coffee-machine repair, or advice ranging anywhere from DIY home repair or refinancing a mortgage.
Gordon has worked on numerous projects in his time at SK&A, over 1300 as a matter of fact, an average of 65 per year! Gordon has always been willing to stay later and, at times, come in on weekends to get deadlines met, except if it interfered with the Orioles’ baseball schedule. Despite the large number of projects he has touched over the years, there are some that Gordon spent significant time on that I am sure will bring back some memories for him. These include:
- Duball Rockville Phase II – Rockville, MD. The companion building to the prior completed Rockville Phase I building, The Upton. The Phase II project is an 18-story residential building with ground-level retail, above-grade parking, and 3½ to 4 levels of below-grade parking. The project has an overall gross floor area of approximately 693,152 sf.
- 1750 Old Meadow Rd Residential, McLean, VA . A Residential project consisting of a new building above an existing precast parking garage and supported by a new concrete podium. Framing above the podium will be light gauge bearing walls and Hambro joist floor system.
- The Grandview Senior Living – Bethesda, MD. The redevelopment of the 33-acre former Marriott HQ site into Erickson’s first “vertical” senior living community.
- Tyson Point– Tampa, FL. A new 29-acre mixed-use development overlooking Old Tampa Bay. When complete, the development will feature 800 apartments and 20,000 sf of retail and restaurants.
- 2100 Penn – Washington, DC. Award-winning, 11-story, V-shaped trophy office in Foggy Bottom with post-tensioned slabs and ground-floor retail.
Gordon’s meticulous work has provided vital support for every one of these projects!
We congratulate Gordon and thank him for the expertise, reliability, excellent temperament, and sense of humor he’s shared with SK&A for the past 20 years.
