Celebrating 10 Years
With James Chavin-Grant

June 23, 2025

James Chavin-Grant, PE, SE, CDT joined SK&A as an entry-level Structural Engineer and now serves as a Project Manager, James has become a reliable resource for efficient structural solutions and a champion of sustainability. His proactive design approach, close coordination with architects and contractors, and leadership of our Embodied Carbon Committee continue to elevate project delivery and firm capabilities.

Throughout his tenure, James has embraced learning opportunities to grow in his roles, shared his knowledge freely, as well as represented our firm externally by presenting project case studies at industry associations, such as the Structural Engineers Association of Metropolitan Washington (SEA-MW). He also recently presented insights on sustainability with a “Case Studies in Embodied Carbon” presentation at the Christopher Kelley Leadership Development Program (CKLDP).

Among the key projects that define James’s decade of work are:

  • DC Water Headquarters – Washington, DC
  • Hoffman Town Center – Alexandria, VA
  • Philip’s Academy – Paterson, NJ
  • The Boro Park Tower – Tysons, VA
  • Benjamin Banneker High School – Washington, DC
  • Richland Mall Redevelopment – Columbia, SC

Two of these projects received significant industry recognition. DC Water Headquarters was highlighted in a Modern Steel Construction article (goingwiththeflow.pdf) that he authored and earned the Architectural Engineering Institute’s Excellence in Structural Systems Design and Excellence in AE Integration awards, while Benjamin Banneker High School was named Engineering News-Record MidAtlantic’s Project of the Year and Best K-12 Education Project.

James is also a member of the SEA-MW Sustainable Design Committee, SK&A’s Steel Technical Committee, and a member of our Education and Local Government Focus Groups. Away from his desk, James serves meals with DC Central Kitchen and keeps his teamwork skills sharp in local Ultimate Frisbee leagues.

Please join us in congratulating James on a decade of outstanding contributions and in thanking him for the leadership, mentorship, and community spirit he brings to SK&A every day.
