A flying taxi company needs terrestrial office space, too. SK&A Structural Engineers was elated (pun intended) to be the Engineer of Record for this corporate interior renovation project!

Wtop News recently covered the Advanced Air Mobility company Supernal’s relocation to the newly renovated 28,000 square-foot office space at 1101 6th St. NW in Washington, DC. SK&A collaborated with Hitt Contracting and Fox Architects to transform the building’s interior, opening up the space to create a synergistic and modern workplace fit for a cutting-edge company. The project involved creating large slab openings for monumental stairways with futuristic looking Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel (AESS), as well as other structural enhancements to heighten the tenant experience.

Supernal is “developing both an eVTOL craft (electric vertical takeoff and landing) and a ground-based system that will support its short-range taxi flights, which, depending on development and a slew of regulatory approvals, could go into service as early as 2028.” Initial goals for the DC market include providing rides back and forth from Dulles Airport (Clabaugh, 2023).

SK&A recognizes the following members of our team who worked on this exciting project: Hakan Onel, PE, SE, Ammar Motorwala, PE, Antonio Paz III, PE, and Ryan Bailey, PE, SE.
