Phelps ACE High School Shadow Day

March 12, 2020 - 10:00am
Washington, DC

On Thursday, March 12, 2020, SK&A’s Washington, DC office participated in the Phelps Architecture, Construction, and Engineering (ACE) High School’s 5th Annual Shadow Day.  The event provided an opportunity for 10th to 12th graders to spend an entire day with a working professional and get a real-world experience in their profession of interest.  Volunteers served as a mentor to the students and were responsible for showing the students around their workplace, including them in various tasks throughout the day, and answering questions.

SK&A team members Kellie Farster, Raz Barzilay, Matt Holtschneider, Sebastian Jongerius, Maurice O’Connor, Torna Patil, David Pirnia, Samuel Wesley, and Daniel Whipple served as volunteer mentors.  Each mentor spent a 30-minute session with the visiting Phelps student, discussing various aspects of their work including current projects, Revit models, analysis models, and other topics while providing a hands-on experience of the various duties and functions of a structural engineer.
