On November 20, 2024, Charles Mitchell, Director of Testing + Inspection at SK&A, joined an esteemed panel for the Structural Engineers Association of Metro Washington (SEA-MW) event “Wood Inspections – The Current State of Things,” held at Maggiano’s Little Italy in Tysons Corner, Virginia. The panel brought together industry leaders to explore the unique challenges and opportunities in wood construction inspections.
With extensive experience performing construction inspections across a range of materials, Charles brought a wealth of knowledge to the panel. As the event description noted, “Construction inspections are an important part of the building process and play a critical role in ensuring the final product meets the construction documents. In commercial construction, inspections for materials such as steel and concrete are clearly defined and codified, but what about wood construction?” The panelists discussed current code requirements and ways the industry can improve upon those minimums.
Alongside Charles, the panel featured Christopher Pinto, PE, LEED AP, Senior Principal & Managing Director at Walter P Moore, and Kellie Farster, PE, Senior Associate at Walter P Moore. Together, they provided valuable insights on how designers and inspectors can work collaboratively to enhance safety and reliability in wood construction.
We’re proud to have had Charles represent SK&A in this important discussion and help advance industry practices in wood inspections!
