Renovation and modernization of the existing three-story Anacostia High School building, which included the original, historic facility built in 1935 as well as additions made in the 1940’s, 50’s, and 70’s. The improvements to the building restored the exterior façade as well as integrated the exteriors of the original building and additions.
Additional renovations included the introduction of new elevators, ADA ramps (interior and exterior), infill of existing stair openings, relocation of the existing library, raising the roof of the cafeteria, introduction of a new feature stair in the cafeteria, vertical expansion, and the upgrade of MEP systems through all portions of the project. A new library and media center provides flexible learning and community gathering spaces.
The project was developed under the DC DGS modified design-build program and construction was phased over two school years, providing student swing space on the existing campus. The project is LEED Silver certified.
