SKA DC Structural Engineer II, Maurice O’Connor participated as a judge for the Student Steel Bridge Competition, held at The George Washington University (GWU) on Friday, April 1st, 2016. Jointly sponsored by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), civil engineering students compete in the event which provides a comprehensive, student-driven, project experience from conception and design through fabrication and testing, resulting in a steel structure that meets client specifications and performance.
The top two to three selected teams will go on to compete in the 2016 National Student Steel Bridge Competition held at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, May 27-28. The local chapter of the competition is part of the annual Virginias' Conference which brings together civil and environmental engineering students and faculty from 14 universities in West Virginia, Virginia, and the District of Columbia to participate in events, attend workshops, and network at the GWU campus.
